Cartooning lost a major talent on Tuesday, when Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Marlette died in a car accident in Mississippi. He was 57 and, ironically, had delivered the eulogy at his father’s funeral a few days prior. Marlette was in Mississippi because a high school was planning a production of the musical based on his comic strip, Kudzu.
But Marlette’s editorial cartooning earned him the Pulitzer in 1988 and in the course of that career, he managed to offend nearly everyone — a sign he was doing something right. I’m not going to single out one of his cartoons. Instead, here’s a link to his site where you can explore his work.
