Bourdain’s blog – a must read

July 16, 2007

in Top Chef, websites

bourdain-and-colicchio.jpgI always enjoy Chef Tom Colicchio’s weekly Top Chef blog posts on Bravo’s annoying website; some weeks I enjoy the blog more than the episode. This week, Anthony Bourdain is a guest blogger subbing for Colicchio and it’s a delightful read. His culinary background and guest-judging stints give him a fine perspective for commentary; his writing always sings and he’s never afraid to speak his mind.

He wasn’t a guest judge this past week but instead cracked open a beer and watched the episode from home, like we did. He tells us why the team that chose shrimp was smart and why those choosing beef and tuna were really dumb. Best of all, you’ll find out who the Brothers Blockhead are and who from Season 2 is Astro Boy. Hint: Hung’s “wolverine-haired predecessor.”

And I think he gives fair warning to any future contestants to lay off the foam, already.

If you’re into food or Top Chef at all, do take a few minutes to go here for a quick and entertaining read.

Update 8/9/07 – Permanent Blogger Bourdain

Update 7/24/07 – Bourdain’s take on the finale of The Next Food Network Star is available on Michael Ruhlman’s blog (see blogroll). It’s not one of his best posts, in my opinion, but it’s there along with earlier posts about this show.
