on Jul 25th, 2007NY Times reviews Perilla

pic_harold.gifTwo months after it opened, The New York Times has reviewed Perilla, the restaurant launched by Top Chef Season One winner Harold Dieterle, and has awarded it one star (”Good”) on a scale of zero to four.

Critic Frank Bruni says the “cautious list of entrees” could have evolved from a focus group. About the restaurant itself he says, ”It’s earnest, endearing and just a bit of a snooze: a classy neighborhood place with more pull than Mr. Dieterle’s cooking — accomplished but hardly riveting — justifies.”

There is still a three-week wait for prime dinner time reservations. Bruni says, “You just may have to wait for the buzz to die down… And you definitely have to accept that Mr. Dieterle isn’t doing a star turn.”
