New York Magazine has finally reviewed Perilla, the restaurant opened by Top Chef Season 1 winner, Harold Dieterle. Writer (and Grub Street blogger) Adam Platt says he put it off as long as possible, not wanting to eat the sort of food that seems to have become endemic to reality show cooking competitions.
Instead, he was surprised to find some well-executed dishes and a bistro-style menu. About the restaurant itself, Platt writes, “It’s a solid, satisfying, somewhat cautiously conceived neighborhood restaurant—a place, in fact, about as far away, in tone and purpose, from the bright, harried kitchens of a reality-television show as it’s possible to be.”
Perilla got one star from New York and the full review is here.
