If you use Baker’s brand White Chocolate Baking Squares, check the package. Kraft has issued a recall in the US and Canada because of possible salmonella contamination. The chocolate squares have slightly different names and packaging in each country.

The recalled product in the US carries four “best by” dates:

  • 31 MAR 2008 XCZ
    01 APR 2008 XCZ
    02 APR 2008 XCZ
    03 APR 2008 XCZ

The codes in Canada are:

  • 08 AL 04
    08 MA 19

Kraft says, “We are taking a number of corrective actions on our BAKER’s white chocolate business, to enhance and strengthen our own processing and program controls.”

    Thank you for the heads up on the white chocolate. It’s certainly timely as Christmas baking is just about to begin.
