Cartoon of the week – 1/6

in Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, cartoon of the week

Iowa! Did you notice Hillary’s concession speech wasn’t a concession at all, but was a stump speech? Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.

Mike Lester of Georgia’s Rome News-Tribune thinks so too.

And I’ll go out on a limb today and predict she will make another concession speech Tuesday night. I think Obama will win New Hampshire. There’s just something in the air here.

Actually, I don’t think that is a very long limb, there, ella.

I agree.

You’re awake too?

With NH voters you just never know. I’ll make another prediction: if she comes in 2nd she’ll echo her husband’s “comeback kid” line.

And weird as it may be, I’m starting to feel it for McCain, even though he was all but dead in the water last summer. I think a lot of people here are still fond of him from 2000, when he all but took up residence here, even though he’s not the maverick anymore. And Romney has the burden of being from “Taxachussetts” and Huckabee’s, well, Huckabee.

Happy Sunday, my friend!

Dare I hope that there is substance and ability behind that wonderful oratory, Mr. Obama? I get happy when I listen to you, and feel like an American again, but does this mean I am just a mushy, gullible, idealist at heart? That I am unrealistic in this scheme of things? Oy.

That cartoon is great because the more you look at it the more you see the broadness of the comment. At first, I just wondered who the clown in the underwear was, too fat to be Bill, but then I noticed the hearts. Is that a low blow or what?

Meanwhile, this is, as they say, turning into a long horse race. I haven’t seen nor heard too much about McCain since the Huck started coming on but I will be interested to see that if he does take NH what will happen next. Over time, my experiences with the American electoral system is that both parties tend towards wanting the known quantity to be elected, that being someone who represents their real interests and histories. If so then, McCain may still be it and Clinton may still be in.

@pbsweeney – if you’re mushy and gullible, you have a lot of company. I was near an Obama field office this afternoon and decided to stop in to see how it’s going.

I couldn’t. Their lot was full, adjacent lots of small stores that are closed today were full, some people parked on the road, half in a ditch.

It’s happening and I’ve got gooseflesh.

@distant rambler – you’re back!! My goodness, how are you? Are you blogging again? If so I’ll pop you right back into the blogroll.

Heck, forget the election. I’m just so happy to see you! :)

@rhbee – the shorts are brilliant! Hillary might still win Tuesday (I doubt it, especially after the parking lot situation I described upthread) but I don’t think it has hurt her one bit to find out that the mantle of inevitability does not fit perfectly on her shoulders. She might well have been entitled to her own political career after the Monica humiliation, but that does not entitle her to further residence on Pennsylvania Avenue.

I don’t know if McCain is electable outside of NH, but I could say that for everyone in the GOP field.
