on Jan 23rd, 2008100 calories
Stores these days are full of snacks and candy packaged in little 100-calorie portions. But what about 100 calories of real food? How much of a potato or yogurt is that? It’s one thing to say ‘this much’ or ‘that much’, it’s another to see it and, having seen it, probably easier to remember.
So let’s look. The NBC Today Show recently showed us several examples of 100 calories’ worth of food. For once, I’m glad I can’t abide mayonnaise and if, after watching this, you’d like some mayo-free versions of old favorites, enter ’no mayo’ in the search box above.

Wow, I’m totally stealing this, ella! Good thing I like salsa. I knew about hidden sugar and products like mayo, but this is such a great graphic demo. The yogurt thing is eye-opening, too. I actually prefer to add my own berries. Thanks for this. I don’t cook much
although I make a few mean soups, and great shepherd’s pie, so info. like this is highly useful.
Muse! Glad you liked it. I was taken aback by the yogurt too because I knew there was a difference but I didn’t reaize it was that much of a difference.
I enjoy shepherd’s pie but rarely have a good one and almost never make it. What’s your secret?
Soups and stews are up my alley; I made a Senegalese stew today that is to die for. Will post it soon.
YAY! I feel vindicated for despising yogurt. I love soups and stews and casseroles.
You don’t like yogurt? I’m surprised. You eat such healthy food I’d assumed you like it — not necessarily the fruit-added stuff.
