Bravo has released information about the next season of Top Chef, which will debut March 12 at 10 PM Eastern.
This season was filmed in Chicago and only two of the 16 contestants are from that city. The others are from New York (7), San Francisco (4), Atlanta (2) and Los Angeles (1). Notably absent is Las Vegas, which produced Season One’s Tiffani Faison and Stephen Asprinio and last season’s winner, Hung Huynh, who will be a guest judge in the new season.
The youngest contestant is 26 and the oldest is 35. Head Judge Chef Tom Colicchio says, “This season the chefs bring a diverse wealth of talent and skill to the table that we’ve not seen before.”
I seem to recall him saying something like that at the start of the last season.
The contestants this time are mostly chefs and sous chefs. A woman, Zoi, is a self-taught cook and a restaurant consultant. Another, Valerie, had formal training but works as a personal chef. You can find links to their biographies here.
With sixteen contestants this season — notice none from Podunk, even though talent is everywhere — we’re in for a long haul. It could be mid-July before it’s over, even later if there are no episodes around the summer holidays or if the season is interrupted again for more useless reunions.
