on Feb 10th, 2008Obama leads, Clinton spins
Barack Obama swept all four of yesterday’s primaries in three states and the Virgin Islands, giving him a 6-delegate lead over Hillary Clinton. In both Nebraska and Washington state, his share of the vote was more than double hers. (see below for update)
As the leaderboard shows, Obama has 861 delegates to Clinton’s 855. To win the Democratic nomination, a candidate needs 2,025 delegates and with more than half the primaries and caucuses conducted, it seems increasingly likely that the nomination could be determined by superdelegates. A superdelegate is a party or elected official free to vote at the August convention. There are nearly 800 of them and a recent survey by The New York Times found 204 backed Clinton, 99 supported Obama and the rest were undecided. They can change their minds at any time.
Clinton is now casting herself as an underdog and in a move of sheer audacity is trying to paint Obama as the “establishment” candidate. This, from someone who spent eight years as first lady and is in her second term as a US Senator.
And campaigning in Maine yesterday, Clinton, who has long enjoyed the support of much of Hollywood, said, “He has increasingly relied on big endorsement and celebrities to sort of attach himself to, to get the kind of validation that comes from that sort of endorsement.”
Even for a politician, that’s a stunning bit of hypocrisy.
Update: Obama easily won today’s caucuses in Maine, now leading Clinton 943 delegates to 904. Clinton has replaced her campaign manager.

Uncommitted, uninvested, and I’m embarrassed for her. OY!
After all those years, you’d think her brain would be in constant ‘preview monitor’ mode.
OK. I’ll leave it, now. Saying a little prayer that the smear campaign isn’t just around the next bend, as I exit.
Have a good week ella.
Hi sage! That comment really took chutzpah. After her emotional moment here in NH and her win here, she said she’d found her voice. A little bit of political laryngitis in Maine might not have been a bad thing.
You have a great week too — and Happy Valentine’s Day.
What really ticks me off, is that Hillary is starting to make a lot of noise about the voters in Michigan and Florida who were stripped of their delegates by the party for moving up their primary dates. First she agreed not to campaign or participate in said primaries, (as did the other candidates who honored that agreement), then she showed up there anyway even having a “victory” celebration in Florida, and now she’s trying to work on Party cronies to reinstate the delegates after the fact. Grrrrr….
Obama, honey, it’s just the beginning! You have super delegate shenanigans to look forward to also! Oy indeed! It’s a finger-biter!
Thanks for letting me vent.
You can come here to vent anytime!
I’m the last person to defend her, but no matter who wins the nomination will likely strongarm the party (in the name of unity, of course. meh) to seat the Florida and Michigan delegates. It’s happened before.
That said… Barry!
