A new CBS News/New York Times poll finds a jump in Barack Obama’s support since the New Hampshire primary, paired with increased confidence in his ability to lead the country and to beat John McCain.
Among Democratic primary voters, 59% now say Obama has the best chance of winning in November, compared with 28% who say that about Hillary Clinton. And those voters, according to the poll, are increasingly turned off by Bill Clinton’s involvement.
The extensive poll of 1,115 registered voters finds Clinton trails both McCain and Obama in voter confidence to make the right decisions about the economy and the war in Iraq - the number one and two issues respectively, according to the poll.

Other findings from the poll: George Bush’s approval rating is at 30%, up from 27% at the beginning of this month. And former president Bill Clinton is not an asset to his wife’s campaign. Among Democratic primary voters, 22% say his involvement makes them less likely to vote for her. That’s up from 12% just three weeks ago.

Who’d have imagined it even six months ago? Certainly Hillary & Co. did not. Jonathan Alter’s new piece at newsweek.com points out they didn’t even bother filing a full slate of delegates in Pennsylvania (primary 4/22) because they were sure they’d have it wrapped up after Super Tuesday.
That persistent arrogance and sense of entitlement are two things about her I’ve long disliked.
