Quote of the month – Feb 08

March 1, 2008

in Food Network, Quote of the month

Iron Chef America is more bogus than even I had imagined.

Restaurant critic Robert Sietsema in The Village Voice February 19th. He attended a taping of the one-hour show — it took about half a day — and spilled the beans about everything from whether the challenger’s choice of Iron Chef is spontaneous (no) to whether “The Chairman” is really the nephew of the original Japanese Chairman (no again).

It’s a long article, good weekend reading, and you’ll find it here.

I can’t say that I’m surprised. It’s a TV show, after all. They aren’t exactly known for accurate depictions of events or reality. ;)

Frankly, I’m surprised that he’s surprised. Was he really expecting a tight, thrilling, hour-long showdown? It’s not the Olympics; its the Food Network. Y’know, Robert, the same people that push Rachael Ray and Sandra Lee. Hee. :)

Ah, RayRay and SLop! :) To say nothing of that Fiedddi clown who refuses to wear long pants. Ugh.

I think what surprised him most was how long the judging takes and that the dishes are duplicated. I knew the “secret” ingredient wasn’t very secret but I didn’t know the judging stuff.

On my way to read your farmers market piece!
