on Mar 5th, 2008Have you seen the Knork?
Inventor Mike Miller of Wichita has sold about one million Knorks so far. What’s a Knork? A utensil that is both knife and fork, an idea he had in the eighth grade. He’s 28 now and will be presenting the Knork at next week’s International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago.
But does it really work? In the food section of today’s Washington Post, Jane Black test drives the Knork and other new utensils, including a clever one called a ramen spoon, for eating foods with noodles and broth (to be sold in May by New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art), and Curvware, an ergonomic take on the humble knife and fork. She gave all of them a test-drive and the increasingly multi-media Post allows us to watch.

The “nork” looks and sounds scary! If the side of the fork cuts a steak what will it do to your lips and tongue? They need to go back to the drawing board with that one!
I never thought of that! Looks handy for parties when your plate’s in your hand…and your tongue is well-protected?
Call me unenlightened, but the “primitive” cutlery set just seems stupid…another marketing ploy. We don’t use “primitive” cutlery for a reason: we aren’t primitive any more. And I seriously doubt that our Neanderthal ancestors had cutlery sets anyway…
And I agree with startcooking: the knork sounds like it would slice your mouth open, Joker-style!

Why am I the only one who never thought about my tongue getting lacerated?
The best part of the article for me was the survey by the British supermarket chain, Tesco, that found 10% use no utensils at all! Too many movies about Henry VIII with that huge chicken leg, I think….

That’s because you don’t need a knife and fork at the chippy*!
