Long time no see, timethief! I'm glad it was useful for you. And for once, I'm sort of happy that fresh tomatoes aren't worth buying in my area for most of the year. I think I'll put a couple plants in tomorrow...

Wow! Last year's ecoli spinach scare was a real put off and now we have salmonella tomatoes to worry about as well. I'm glad you posted this because I was unaware of it.

Yes, WF was especially hard-hit and to pull stock at every store, everywhere, is pretty admirable.

Here's the official advice, btw, from the bizlink I have in the post:

Customers who bought tomatoes are urged to cook the produce at 145 degrees to kill any possible salmonella, thoroughly wash all tomatoes under running water, separate tomatoes from raw meat and seafood, wash cutting boards and countertops with hot soap and water when switching between types of foods and remember to wash hands thoroughly before preparing or serving food.

Yes, I heard about the tomato recall, ella, but didn't know that Whole Foods was particularly implicated. I occasionally shop there, but don't usually get produce there. I had already eaten two of the five tomatoes I'd bought without getting sick, and then I washed the others really well with veggie wash; so far so good. We'll have to see for the future, but wow, tomatoes are staples for so many of us! :(
