on Jul 30th, 2008Tim Gunn on Cindy and Michelle

The lighter side of presidential politics. When it comes to fashion, there’s no doubt which potential first lady gets Tim Gunn’s vote. Project Runway’s divine style maven-in-chief tells Time magazine online:

Michelle Obama. Absolutely. From a fashion viewpoint, Michelle Obama looks so comfortable and relaxed in her style, in her fashion, and she exudes that. She has a presence that gives you confidence in her. Cindy McCain looks like someone has twisted her ponytail into a knot and tried to give her a face-lift.

Well, meow. I wonder if he’d agree with my opinion about Cindy’s taste in suits?

Gunn was interviewed recently for Time’s 10 Questions series on video. I appreciated his comments about the fashion industry’s tendency to marginalize women over 25 and I wish he’d use his considerable influence to change that. And I literally laughed out loud at his comments about Crocs, so ubiquitous in my area that they’ve supplanted Birkenstocks as what I (cattily, yes) call the Gucci sandals of New England. I’m being self-catty too, as, I own all three; each has its place but the Crocs’ place is not any city anywhere. He’d probably say their place is the nearest trash can.

You can watch the interview here. It runs about six minutes.

    Ella ~

It takes a good bit to make me guffaw when I’ve run in for lunch and know I have to run back out into an afternoon of mid-90s heat, but this, and the link to “Cindy’s Taste in Suits” did just that. A “woven muffin”?! That is one wonderful phrase.

And by the way - having introduced my mom to smoothies, I ran the roasted grapes past her. She was totally approving. Last night she asked, “Did Ella have another recipe today?”

You are Hawt with the over 90’s set!

I don’t think anyone’s looking to either woman for ideas, but Michelle Obama’s personal style is already being compared to Jackie’s so if he’s elected I think she’ll have an influence, even if short-lived.

    Thanks for stopping by!
