    As boneheaded as that was, I could swallow that platitude if he meant that we should not panic, or the free market would eventually make its way back or that we’ve survived worse in the past. But then he and Palin went on to redefine fundamentals to mean the American workers and it just made them look inept.

    I agree. I believe he said it three times and at first I just chalked it up to campaignspeak, even though he’s admitted economics isn’t his strong suit. But when it took days — and Congressional leaders hearing the word “collapse” in that first night time meeting — for him to either grasp or admit the severity, I knew he wasn’t just trying to sound reassuring.
