I’ve made a couple changes I’d like you to be aware of. First and most important is the addition of a culinary calcuator in each recipe, something I’ve wanted to do for some time. From now on, you will find this just before the ingredient list:
When you click it open, you’ll find drop-down boxes enabling you to convert volume ingredients to ounces or grams, and American cups of flour and sugar are built in, in from and to under Weight. The weight for a cup of flour is greater than I use, reflecting the dip-and-scoop method of measurement, but I always include the gram weight of flour and sugar in recipes; it’s how I measure and the amounts I actually use are what I list. Temperature conversions between Farenheit and Celsius are also possible. Extremely helpful is the ability to convert length, so if a recipe specifies an 8″ pan, you can quickly calculate that it’s 20.32 cm. I’ll continue to provide conversions to at least one other standard within recipes, especially those for baked goods, but this will fill in gaps and make on-the-fly conversions possible.
I can not thank my friend Juan enough for helping to make this a reality. His customization and patience are remarkable and so is he.
In the sidebar, I’ve replaced the slide show-style epicurious widget with a scrollable one, elminating the need to wait for an interesting-looking recipe to come around again. I added two frequently-updating political widgets some time ago. One is the current electoral count estimate from electoral-vote.com and the other is a fact checker from Politifact, which is a joint project of the Congressional Record and the St. Petersburg Times. This is a terrific resource, often providing information factcheck.org does not. Obviously, the electoral count widget will be removed next month but the fact checker might remain if the service continues.
I removed my playlist to ease loading times with the new widgets in place. It will probably return for my own enjoyment, if nothing else. I like listening to favorite tunes while working in other tabs.

Your new calculator is very useful; what a nice thing. I like the sidebar changes, too. Recipe of the day is fun to look at. Not sure what you’ll do after the election, but I know it’ll be good! And that little “convert me” button—I take it you’re not talking religion here.
Juan da man!

Yep, Juan’s da man, no question. I’m going to name a dish in his honor. Srsly.
Those recipe widgets can be fattening! I look at them sometimes and say, I want that, I want that, ooh that too. I hate my metabolism.
Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks much for the shout out, Ella. It’s very much appreciated
