My favorite turkey

November 26, 2008

in fun stuff, videos

It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving at From Scratch without some humor. This is vintage, classic SNL from November 20, 1976 when guest host Paul Simon donned a turkey costume to sing Still Crazy After All These Years during his monologue. He’s a favorite and so is this clip. I love the arm/wing action he has going on and his Queens accent is thick as buttah. Yes, the thin guy at the end is a very young Lorne Michaels. This is from Season 2, when the show was so hot that Simon’s musical guest was George Harrison.

For more diversions, last year’s Thanksgiving fun was a roundup of real help calls to the Butterball Turkey Hotline and if you missed Simon singing as he campaigned with presidential hopeful Chris Dodd last year, you’ll find that here. Enjoy!

Oh my, was that really 1976??!!?? How delightful to experience this. I’ve loved Paul & Artie for a long, long, time. Haha, Paul takes himself SO seriously! Happy Thanksgiving, dear ella.

sage – I found a program rundown on line and that’s the show where George was offered a check to reunite the Beatles with a line about it’s up to them whether Ringo’s told about the money. Oh, so long ago…

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

You’re welcome! He is just too terrific for words. And cute as a button.

I just saw him on Colbert a week or so ago, and his voice is still so wonderful. True talent never dies.

So true. I’m sorry I missed that show. I’m not a big Colbert fan but I’d sit through anything for Paul Simon.
