President Obama wasted no time in righting some wrongs and that’s the subject of a wonderful Ann Telnaes animated cartoon at the Washington Post.

That’s wonderful. I’ve met many travelling Americans during the past 8 years in London and increasingly it was like meeting South Africans in the apartheid years. None of them professed to supporting the system. But you never were quite sure.
For our part, of course, as a nation we’ve been apologising for being British since the days of Noel Coward and beyond. But during the Iraq War (and for much of the time since) this tendency took on the status of an obsession.
I’m Canadian at times like that as well, or European at least. That’s “Yur’peea” as the soon-to-be forgotten W would have had it.
