Express lane recipes

March 4, 2009

in Kosher, meatless, recipes, seafood, vegetables

expressfewerWe’re all busy. Today’s Washington Post rounded up some quick, easy recipes for express lane shopping, all with fewer than 10 ingredients. (I won’t start on supermarkets whose signs say “10 or less.”)

Top of my list, especially with Passover baking approaching, a flourless walnut cake with four ingredients. I have them all and might try it soon, since this is the week I’m not shopping.

Lent is already here, and there’s a fast recipe for broiled scrod with an egg sauce, the sauce being an old tradition the Post says, brought here by British colonists. I’m the Catholic in this interfaith relationship and observe lent, so this is on my list too.

There’s a kid-friendly recipe using canned tuna whose name translates to Tuna Corks. They’re baked in a muffin tin, making them cute and healthy. If your market doesn’t sell creme fraiche, my creme fraiche recipe is easy to make from only two ingredients.

For a side dish, there’s Eggplant with Bacon and Caraway and a salad using fennel, celery and mozzarella cheese.

Don’t get me started on the 10 items or fewer issue. You are preaching to the choir! I see/hear lots of fewer/less than mistakes on the television almost every day, too. Apparently, it is national grammar day, if you’re interested :)

I think the only thing I dislike more than bad grammar is bad manners! (And mayo)

I don’t know why I don’t visit here more often! I don’t have you on my surfer because this isn’t a wordpress blog and it only allows other WP blogs. That shouldn’t be my excuse. I love where you are going with your site.

My husband has been doing most of the baking this year. Lucky me! I have to give him your site address. I know he would make many of your recipes.

I want to try the Walnut Cake and the Tuna Puffs. Thank you for sharing.

Hi, Bead. Well, you’re here now and that’s what counts. I don’t visit as many blogs as often as I’d like either. Life.

I want to try that walnut cake soon too. So many people can’t have flour for health reasons and I’d like something other than predictable flourless chocolate cake in my repertoire. Send him over!

Good to see you and I’m happy you like the changes. Stay tuned! ;)
