Cartoon of the week – 4/5

April 5, 2009

in cartoon of the week

When I read the kerfuffle in the British press over the iPod loaded with American show tunes President Obama gave Queen Elizabeth this week, I hoped Ann Telnaes, whose animated cartoons also have sound, would do something with it. And oh my goodness, did she, but in a wholly unexpected way. No wonder she has a Pulitzer.

Click on the iPod to go to her cartoon, which will autoplay.

And while we’re talking about dinky gifts, Her Maj gave our prez a framed photo — of herself. That’s the standard gift she gives, apparently. At least the iPod was also said to be loaded with a video of her last trip here, so One can watch Oneself to One’s heart’s content.

I still maintain he should have put “God save the Queen” on it! If we are honest, both presents were pretty odd and crap! heh

But versataile crap! She can put whatever she wants on it or give it to one of her grandchildren and he can use the frame for something else. It’s one step short of regifting. :D

I thought the iPod was cute. But what a lot of people don’t realize is that he also gave her a songbook (possibly a first edition) with the score from “The King and I” which was autographed by Rodgers of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Considering that is one of the Queen’s favorite musical’s, I thought that was pretty touching.

Welcome, Christine, and thanks for commenting.

That was a very thoughtful gift and was barely reported over there. Many of the papers, broadsheets as well as tabs, have been in a huff since Obama gave Brown the boxed set of DVDs. I think anything other than a horse would have set them off.

Yep, it’s a good one. I especially appreciate the thought she gave to the clip and where to fade it at the end. Women with brains…what a concept!

Thanks for the visit, zacca. Happy Easter to you and yours.
