“We are America! We do not f***ing torture!”

Fox news anchor Shepard Smith, unbleeped, during an on-air discussion April 22 about the purported merits of the Bush Administration’s use of torture.

Oh, that little renegade Shep, thinking for himself and not toeing the party line on the cable channel that’s an echo chamber for the GOP. And he’s right.

Not only did Smith drop the F-bomb, it took him several seconds to realize he said it. If you haven’t seen it, here it is.

Don’t generally watch Fox, but, wow! I agree with a Fox commentator! Effective; schmective, there are issues of how we want to be as people, here! By the way, have you been reading the stories about “Churchgoers more likely to approve of torture?” Um…what? :?

I don’t watch it either, Muse, I just wait for people to say, “Did you see…?” Smith stepped up to the plate last fall too, when he called out Joe the Plunger, um plumber, about not being who he claimed. It was priceless.

The issue of how we want to be seen is so important — to say nothing of torture being illegal — and the way we were seen by the rest of the world under GWB was just embarrassing.

I’ve only seen the headlines for that story about churchgoers. There are some things I don’t want to know. :) It reminds me of a study a few months back that found the largest consumers of online porn are conservatives who publicly denounce it and that the greatest number is in Utah.
