“Never say never in this game because crazy stuff can happen.”
That was Chicago White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle, after pitching a perfect game July 23. It was only the 18th perfect game in the history of Major League Baseball and came at the expense of defending AL champion Tampa Bay, who went down 5 – 0.
Buehrle pitched a no-hitter two years ago and belted a home run last month. He explained his “never say never” philosphopy this way: “I never thought I’d throw a no-hitter, never thought I’d throw a perfect game and I never thought I’d hit a home run.”
He’s only the sixth pitcher in MLB history to throw a perfect game and a no-hitter. Bravo!
