By all accounts, Europe is extraordinarily interested in this year’s presidential race and primaries; coverage has been extensive and in-depth. I wondered how it all seems to my fellow blogger, roadsofstone, who is an incisive thinker and a terrific writer. I am pleased beyond words that he’s agreed to be my first guest blogger, especially as he […]

ellaella on Jan 8th, 2008McCain wins NH again
According to CNN projections, Arizona Senator John McCain has won the Republican primary in New Hampshire with 37% of the vote. Mitt Romney was second with 28% and Mike Huckabee third with 12%.
It’s a remarkable comeback for McCain, whose then-moribund campaign was nearly out of money and staff last summer.
McCain easily won this primary in 2000, […]
ellaella on Jan 7th, 2008Final poll: Obama, McCain still lead
Tonight’s tracking polls for WMUR and CNN show Barack Obama and John McCain retain their leads for their parties’ primaries tomorrow. Obama leads Democrats with 39% and McCain tops Republicans with 31%, down one percentage point from yesterday. Obama’s lead over Hillary Clinton is also down by one percentage point; she is at 30% now. […]

This latest tracking poll also shows John […]

Iowa! Did you notice Hillary’s concession speech wasn’t a concession at all, but was a stump speech? Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.
Mike Lester of Georgia’s Rome News-Tribune thinks so too.
And I’ll go out on a limb today and predict she will make another concession speech Tuesday night. I think Obama will win […]
ellaella on Jan 3rd, 2008Huckabee takes Iowa
Republican Mike Huckabee was projected the winner of his party’s Iowa caucuses not quite one hour after the process began. Huckabee ran a God-centric campaign in a state with many evangelicals. It’s a different electorate here in New Hampshire, where the first-in-the-nation primary will be held January 8.
Huckabee has spent only about $30,000 to advertise in […]
ellaella on Dec 12th, 2007Clinton loses lead in NH
A just-released poll by WMUR and CNN shows Hillary Clinton’s lead over Barack Obama in New Hampshire has vanished. They are in a statistical dead heat, with Clinton’s support at 31% and Obama’s at 30%.
Since November, her support has dropped by 5 percentage points, while his has risen by 8 percentage points.
On the Republican side, […]
ellaella on Nov 25th, 2007Likability and electability
At long last, the dispute between New Hampshire and Michigan over primary election dates is over, after the Michigan Supreme Court gave that state the go-ahead to hold its primary January 15. New Hampshire then announced its primary will be January 8, retaining its first-in-the-nation status. That’s the earliest presidential primary ever and is three […]
ellaella on Oct 21st, 2007One down
The Republican field of presidential candidates has shrunk by one. Kansas Senator Sam Brownback dropped out this week, citing a lack of support and money. No surprise here; last month he gave a speech in the heavily-populated (for New Hampshire) southern part of the state and only a handful of people showed up. Perhaps it […]
ellaella on Oct 12th, 2007Flip-flop Award - Hillary Clinton
It’s one thing to change your position on an issue. It’s another to do so after ridiculing an opponent.
Back in July, when Barack Obama said during a debate that he would be willing to meet with Iranian leaders, unconditionally, Hillary Clinton called his position irresponsible and naive.
Yesterday, in a Canterbury, NH apple orchard, a citizen […]

It’s finally starting to feel like primary time, a bit late this go-round. Yard signs and bumper stickers have been late to appear — I’ve seen one of each for Ron Paul and one huge, next-to-an-interstate sign for Rudy Giuliani. That’s it. [Afternoon yard sign update: two Romneys, one McCain] I’ve seen a couple TV […]
ellaella on Aug 3rd, 2007Flip-flop Award - John McCain
Republican Senator John McCain has changed his mind about illegal immigrants.
At one time he championed a bill that would have enabled many of the estimated 12 million illegal aliens in the US to achieve citizenship through a guest worker program. The bill failed earlier this year and McCain, whose presidential campaign is also failing, has a […]
ellaella on Jul 1st, 2007Obama sets money record
Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama announced today his campaign raised $32.5 million in the past three months, the largest quarterly sum ever for any Democrat in a pre-election year.
More than 154,000 donors contributed to the Illinois senator’s campaign in the second quarter.
Hillary Clinton has yet to announce her second-quarter tally; her campaign has indicated an […]
